GREEN YOUTH IN ACTION

The environment and climate action are key priorities for the EU. The communication "The European Green Deal" is the new European strategy for growth and recognizes the central role played by schools, training institutes and universities in establishing a dialogue with pupils, parents and the community in general on the changes needed to the successful transition to climate neutrality by 2050. The program is a key tool for developing knowledge, skills and attitudes regarding climate change and sustainable development both in the European Union and in the rest of the world. Opportunities for mobility in green and future-oriented environments will increase, which favor the development of skills, improve career prospects and engage participants on strategic issues for the sustainable growth of the planet, with a focus on sustainable agriculture, management of natural resources , soil conservation and bioagriculture.

In addition, Erasmus+, focused on mobility, promotes sustainable modes of transport and more responsible behaviour. Environmental sustainability becomes a horizontal priority therefore projects aimed at developing skills, methodologies and strategies in the field of green sectoral skills, future-oriented programs will be privileged. The program supports the use of innovative practices designed to make learners, staff and youth workers real agents of change (e.g. saving resources, reducing energy consumption and waste, offsetting carbon footprint emissions, more sustainable choices in terms of food and mobility, etc.).

When designing projects, organizations and participants should adopt an approach which is environmentally friendly and fosters behavioral change, which encourages them to discuss environmental issues, which allows them to reflect on what to do at their own level and find alternative and more ecological ways to carry out their activities.

Platforms such as eTwinning and EPALE will continue to produce supporting materials and facilitate the exchange of effective educational policies and practices on the environment and sustainability.
